How some are luckier than others

I believe that everyone is well aware that by no means people are equal nor equally endowed with capacities and opportunities in this world. Not only that Africans and people in Ludza have less money and worse schools but also some have made smarter choices than others. Long and boring talk but what I have in mind is the fact that you’re part of SSE Riga DS.

In particular I understood last night how much I have enjoyed and enjoy the activities that debating brings along (and how far for the most part I am from that but that’s another story). The point of this post is to make sure that you are aware that you are part of the elitest organisation of SSE Riga. And if you put some effort into it you can get a lot out from that. On one hand it means chances to travel at reduced cost, meet really diverse people and see weird places along famous ones, on the other it means socialising and building potentially lifelong relation(ship?)s with the most intelligent crowd in the Baltics.

Sauna parties, roadtrips, forest parties, loads of alcohol, travelling – don’t miss it and don’t give up on it. There are many interesting tournaments coming up in the spring semester, the info about them will reach you. All you have to do is to make the smart choice to participate. I would like to do my best to guide you to (if not through) the best you can get from SSE Riga.

To finish, allow me to paraphrase (:-)) a graduate of 2005. To his mind, of all the things he learned at SSE Riga the most he got from debate club. Keep that in mind…

  1. Hooray! Remembering what it takes to be a good debater: in the centre of Kiev beer costs some 50 santims and most places in Germany are filled with all sorts of crazy people šŸ˜‰

  2. ‘The point of this post is to make sure that you are aware that you are part of the elitest organisation of SSE Riga.’

That’s the spirit! All my fears of an adverse cultural change have now gone away.

    Enjoy the festive period!

  3. To be honest, I also thought of you while writing this post. But that wasn’t why I decided to post at the firstplace. I had a crazy weekend…

  4. Unfounded elitism. You’re no Oxbridge.

  5. That’s a good line of argumentation..
    – Should elitism be absolute or relative?
    – Can anyone else except Oxbridge feel like an elite?
    – What are criteria for being an elite?
